The Ukiyoe art style was all the rage during the Edo period, being very popular among the common people of the time. Ukiyoe shirts would have also existed in the Edo period if Western-style clothing had already been introduced from other countries into Japan by that time. The swallow depicted here has been a familiar bird in Japanese art and legend for over 1,300 years, and was often depicted along with peony flowers on kimonos crafted in the Edo period. The base fabric is 100% cotton for worry-free washing.
